Summary

Chapter 21: Inej opens with two more days of travel before they arrive in Djerholm. Kaz is annoyed when he learns Matthias did not tell him about the ash tree in the center of the Ice Court. They get a table on a terrace to see a prisoner wagon. Kaz shows them a backless book and says he will unlock the wagon and take the prisoner’s places. The group then goes to a bakery where Inej talks to Matthias. He admits that he has not seen home in a long time and the two talk about Nina. Inej asks why his eyes always search Nina out, and he says they do not, but he looks relieved when Nina returns.
