Summary

Chapter 1 is from Alex’s perspective. Alex works at a bar called The Tilted Rabbit, where her girlfriend, Natalie Ramirez, is performing with her band, the Cereal Killers. It is the night before Alex leaves for college. The two go back to Natalie’s apartment. The situation turns romantic. Natalie tells Alex “I love you” for the first time. Alex almost returns the words, then stops. The last thing her father said to them before he left was “I love you,” and Alex does not want to say it now that she is leaving too. The romance ceases. Natalie starts a conversation about long distance, but that ends when Alex gets a text from another girl. Alex is a flirt and Natalie feels like she cannot trust Alex in a long distance relationship.
