Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center

In Washington D.C., the Ronald Reagan federal building is the headquarters of the U.S. Customs and Border Control Protection. Decisions affecting millions of immigrants are made in this office. In early January 2017, officials met in this room to “overhaul…the nation’s immigration system” (30) as directed by executive order from Trump. Many long-term government officials were surprised to find the meetings in this room less productive and, instead, infused with a more celebratory mood at ending undocumented migration altogether. On February 14, 2017, the separation policy was considered and, even if kept secretive for months, agreed upon.
