Connectivity

Through the theme of connectivity, the author shows how even brief connections made between people can have profoundly significant consequences for their lives and the world. Most dramatically, Olive Llewellyn's life is saved by her momentary connection to Gaspery, who warns her to return home to the moon, preventing her from dying in the pandemic. This meeting is not the only connection Gaspery has to Olive, as she was his mother's favorite author and Gaspery was named after a character from Olive's book Marienbad.

Gaspery, Olive, Vincent Smith, and Edwin St. Andrew are connected through time by the experience of the anomaly, which is a symbol of the theme of connectivity.
