Summary

In Chapter 5, “Tenzo/Nanook Speaks” (82), Tenzo/Nanook explained that he pretended to be from the “land of sushi” (82) when he met Nora, but had started pretending long ago. His real name was Nanook and he was an Inuit man from a fishing village in Greenland. Growing up, his father told him to attend Copenhagen University, so that is what he did. He got a scholarship from a woman named Inga Nielsen. Tenzo/Nanook was surprised that he blended in well in Copenhagen; he was not treated differently because of his ethnicity. He visited Mrs. Nielsen's office once and told her he was planning to study medicine, though he was uncertain about this.
