Summary

“Salt Slow” takes place in an apocalyptic world that has been flooded by extended torrential rains so there is very little, if any, inhabitable land. A man and a woman are floating through the ocean in a boat. They happen upon a mass of dead lobsters in the water and eat several of them. Birds and sea creatures seem to be growing larger in response to the changes to the surface of the Earth. The man and woman are a couple and she is pregnant, though they rarely discuss this fact, seemingly because they do not want to contemplate what will happen when she must give birth. She recalls when they met; he was a bartender and he bought her a drink, then they spent all evening talking to each other as he made her a series of increasingly complicated beverages.
