Summary

In the chapter called “The Little Sweet,” Claire, scheming to retrieve her phone she left deliberately in the cab, agrees to meet the cab driver at a Caribbean restaurant near her apartment called Little Sweet. There, she has the chance to observe the cab driver closely. He is, of course, much older now than the boy who was with her sister the night she died. His hair is graying, his shoulders hunched, his eyes sunk. Plus Claire was only 7 the last time she saw him. She knows in her gut, however, this is the man who got away with killing her sister. She admits that meeting him in the cab was an “extraordinary convergence” (85) and a miraculous coincidence that demands she act. She becomes distracted at work, exploring Google for any information she can find about the man. She opens up to searches...
