Chapter 5 Summary

Reacher inherited the house from Jodie's father, who was also Reacher's former commanding officer. When Reacher came back to New York, found out Leon was dead and that Jodie had married and divorced, they finally admitted their feelings for each other.

Reacher is thinking about how he never really owned any possessions when he was in the military. The house is his first real possession and it makes him feel rooted in ways that he has never felt before. As Reacher is making coffee, Lamarr and Blake, two of the FBI agents show up at his door and want to talk with him. Theytell Reacher that a third woman in Utah, connected to the Army, has been murdered.
