Chapter 16 Summary and Analysis

Chapter 16, p. 218—Richard brags in the book about how he is very political and knows how to talk to admirals. He describes to an admiral a proposal to move all of SEAL Two to a place called Roosy Roads, Puerto Rico. By not playing by the bureaucratic rules, Richard gets his way, but makes a lot of enemies. He has trouble with Ted Lyon, former Commanding Officer (CO) of Seal Two. In 1976, Ted is a CO of UDT Team 21, going out. Ted asks to use a field for swearing-in exercises that Richard has reserved. Richard, also going out of a command, violently refuses to agree to the request of the senior officer Ted, something that comes back to haunt Richard. Richard takes a master's college course in Alabama, and then he and the family move back to Washington DC, where...
