Chapters 1 - 11 Summary

In Chapter 1, Steven Goode, a seventeen -ear-old student at Cedar Cove High, is the first love of Lexi, whom she drowns near her sweet-sixteen party. Because of that, Lexi swims in a remote mountain lake at night in Tillamook State Forest, having killed no one in two years. But Cole Hitchens, the best friend of Steven, comes to skip rocks on Lexi's lake. Cole is attractive, and Lexi wonders why he is skipping rocks here of all places. Lexi craves the water, but Cole stands between her and the lake.
