Summary

Chapter 11 begins about ten years after Rebecca Shaw’s disappearance. Irene and Jones cross paths on the street one day, and Jones says that Irene should get help if Andrew is hitting her. Martin’s daughter Amy gives birth, and Martin is happy to be a grandfather. Andrew’s computer equipment begins to take up a lot of space in Irene’s home. One evening in summer, Gordon Jackson takes Susanna Wright for a ride in his car to see the new wind turbines in the town. He makes a sexual advance on her, but she rebuffs him. Richard’s mother dies while he is out of the country, and he is unable to return until two days later. The Coopers take a brief trip to celebrate their twentieth wedding anniversary.
