Chapters 1 through 8 Summary

In Nizhnevartovsk, R.S.F.S.R., three Muslims kill refinery workers and set fire to the plant. The massive fire is soon discovered by the Satellite Control Facility in Sunnyvale, California. It's noted that the fire will quickly consume the entire refinery and the oil fields and will burn for days. The analysis is confirmed by the CIA and British and French security services, but it will soon be revealed that those reports are all incorrect. On January 31, 2006, an Associated Press story written by Williams Blake is released, including facts such as the fields account for some thirty-one percent of Russian's oil production. Mikhail Eduardovich Sergetov, on the job just three months, goes over what he knows, including the fact that some three hundred died fighting the fire and two hundred residents of Nizhnevartovsk also died.
