Summary

Patricia gives birth to a baby girl and names her Ashley. She dreams of a "Leave It to Beaver" family life with Derrick and Ashley. Derrick comes to the hospital briefly to meet his daughter, but he brings another girl with him and Patricia realizes she will have to figure everything out on her own. Patricia struggles to support her daughter with items stolen from the hospital, but soon the formula and diapers run out. She asks Derrick for money and he gets his new girlfriend to drop off clothes and diapers. Six months after Ashley is born, Patricia becomes emancipated from her mother so that she can get her own welfare benefits and moves out of her mother's house. Soon after, Derrick starts coming around again, saying that he loves her, and Patricia quickly gets pregnant again. Patricia drops out of school...
