Summary

The narrator lists the men and woman with whom Le-a had both consensual and consensual sexual relations before she met Squanto. The one woman was an unpleasant encounter at 15-years-old with a desperate girl named Mona. When Mona slept, she slipped away in a taxi. The narrator describes the nature of time as the ebb and flow of waves, emphasizing that the past and the sins of ancestors “wash into now” (168).
