Summary

Chapter 5 was told from Ralph Angel’s point of view in the third person-limited style. He decided to take a quick detour to Corpus Christi, Texas, to take Blue to the beach. The trip included a ferry ride, which reminded him of a trip he made with his own father, Ernest. After getting the car across on the ferry, Ralph Angel and Blue had fun on the beach. Ralph Angel recalled fondly his trip to the beach with his father. His father told him all about California and Ralph Angel asked when he could go live with him. He said Ralph Angel had to be a little older, maybe the following year. The next year, however, Ernest married Lorna, an ophthalmologist in Los Angeles.
