Summary

The novel now switches to Linda. Linda has currently been in San Francisco for three months. Linda has very little money, and has decided to persuade a boy, Baptist, she met three nights ago to buy and share an apartment with her. Linda goes to a bar to meet Baptist. After spending the night together, she moves into his apartment the next day. Linda notes that Baptist is not a " quick wit"(65) but is very wealthy, which is something she requires to continue her aimless life.

After spending two weeks with Baptist, Linda notes that he has begun to repulse her. After Baptist gets a tattoo, Linda decides it is time to end the relationship. She notes that aside from Henrik, she has no problem ending relationships with boys. She usually offers the simple explanation of " our body types don't match" (67). Linda then begins...
