Coming of Age

The coming of age theme is seen throughout the story as Ben strives to find her place in this new situation without her parents' guidance. An important aspect of this theme is evident in Ben's realization that people see her as a spoiled brat and that the kingdom is depending on her. Ben sets out learn everything necessary in order to fulfill her duties as queen, a task that takes a great deal of energy and perseverance. Another aspect of the theme is seen in Ben's relationship with Sophia. Initially, Ben dislikes Sophia and rebels against everything Sophia tells her to do.
