Summary
Monica enters and informs Garry about various phone calls and correspondence. The pace of the conversation is frenetic and chaotic. Eventually Liz, Garry’s estranged wife, enters. She asks Monica, “What’s God up to?” (20) referring to Garry. Daphne enters from the spare room, wearing an evening gown from the night before, and is startled by the sight of Liz. Monica introduces Liz as Garry’s wife, alarming Daphne who says she thought they were divorced. Liz replies that they never got around to it, but reassures Daphne not to worry. Liz is clearly unphased by Daphne’s presence. Monica informs Liz that Daphne lost her key and had to spend the night in the spare room.
