After Alvin has won his battle with the Unmaker, Peggy thinks about her role in his life. She realizes that Alvin has important work to do as a Maker, and that someday he must build a utopian Crystal City of enlightenment. Peggy understands that Alvin can never do his work unless he knows what he needs to do, but he has no teacher. She decides to go up north, to Philadelphia, where the best universities are.
