Summary

In Chapter 23, Praxis reflects on her relationships. She sees betrayal as commonplace. People manipulate and hurt one another all of the time. Despite these patterns, humans repeat the same offenses.

In Chapter 24, Praxis met up with Irma. Irma commented upon Praxis's life and character. Irma looked different. She had brought four women "with speculative and somber eyes" to coffee with her (231). They were all a part of the Women's Movement. They tried convincing Praxis of things she did not want to believe. However, she soon began considering these ideas, too. Phillip noticed, "and cut her down to size" (233). Praxis kept visiting with the ladies. She also continued writing copy. Sometimes she still talked to the stars. She wondered if this was a sign of hysteria (236). Meanwhile, Praxis and Phillip's relationship strained. Praxis knew she would not be with him forever.
