Part 5: Chapters 33-35 Summary

Stacking the Deck. Catherine tells Bart she is pregnant. Bart is horrified because he wants to be a father but does not want to lose his wife. Catherine promises to disappear, but Bart cannot allow her to do that, begging for time to think things through. At the same time, Catherine has a dress made to be an exact replica of the green gown her mother wore the first Christmas Catherine and her siblings were locked in the attic, a Christmas when Catherine and Christopher were allowed to spy on the party from a cabinet on the second floor.
