Chapter Ten Summary

Chapter Ten, Now

Lena wakes to find Julian, nearly naked, showering in the rain beneath the grate. She admits that she also would like to take a shower. While she showers Julian scouts ahead. She turns to find him returned and watching her shower naked. Julian admits that he has never seen someone naked before and reaches to touch her. Then they hear people coming. They hide in an archway. For several minutes flashlights light up and flash around the tunnel and then the light finally lands on them. Lena jumps on the pursuers. A fight ensues.

Lena feels herself being lifted and a torch flashes in her captor's face. He looks like a giant rat. Lena screams and then loses consciousness.

The Invalids, broken, tired and hungry, find the third camp. There is no sign of food...
