Summary

By December 1959 (Chapter 14), Kim has decided he must return to Korea and tells Yoseb his plans. Yoseb asks if he will wait to return Yoseb’s ashes to Korea after his death. Kim tells Yoseb not to talk about death. Later, Kim asks Kyunghee if she would come back to Korea with him and be his wife after Yoseb dies. Kyunghee tells Kim that she cannot ask Kim to wait for her because “It would be sinful” (276). The next morning, Kyunghee discovers that Changho is gone. He left in the middle of the night.

By 1960 (Chapter 15), Noa has spent two years at Waseda University in Tokyo. He loved school, and Hansu provided a nicer apartment in the city than most of the other students had. One morning, Noa meets up with the “radical beauty on campus,” Akiko. Akiko is not afraid...
