The Boy's Village

The boy’s village is home to a small community which has fallen under the spell of the bailiff, a cruel man who cultivates a culture of violence and abuse among the villagers. The bailiff’s ascent to power occurs after the village’s infrastructure is shaken by a terrible drought and the closure of a local railroad station. Many villagers leave, and those who stay must adapt to the harsh conditions, often at the cost of their humanity.

The Plain

The plain is a vast, deserted expanse that has had its ecosystem destroyed by a terrible drought. The animals which once lived there have mostly died from starvation and lack of water, and the farmers’ fields lie empty and dry. It is a desperate, inhospitable place that constantly poses new challenges to the boy’s survival.
