Summary

Chapter 17 takes place the Wednesday after the shooting. Four funerals are scheduled but no one has the heart to attend any more of their peers’ memorials. Most of the main characters have not spoken to each other since leaving the corn field. The principal’s funeral is scheduled for late in the morning, and Nick spends the morning at the hospital, waiting for his father to finish working. He reads the book assigned for his English class before the shooting to busy himself. He wonders if anyone in the neuroscience wing would be able to help him understand the changes experiencing such trauma has had on his brain.
