Summary

Adam thanks Katy for accompanying him to Naples in Chapter 22. He kisses her on the cheek and says, “You’re really special” (44). After showering, Katy puts on her mother’s old silk dress. In the lobby, Marco tells her she looks beautiful. He says Nika is driving him crazy with all her talk of selling the hotel.

Katy recalls a difficult conversation she once had with her mother. Carol was determined that Chuck should retire while Katy thought otherwise. When Carol explained to Katy that they were ready for this step, Katy felt left out. In response to Katy’s inquiry about what they would do, Carol said, “There is more to life than just continuing to do what we know” (146).
