Summary

In “Bad Teeth,” Csilla and Lynne have tea “in Csilla’s backyard” (103). Csilla is shocked to have learned that Lynne “had an affair with Newman Small,” particularly because he had “bad teeth” (103). Lynne cannot remember Newman Small and is sure she never slept with him. Csilla explains who he was and shares the details of the story she heard from Lynn’s ex-husband Jason. Lynne has no problem admitting to the affairs she did have, but is insistent Newman was not one of them. She and Csilla have known each other since their youth. When the pill came out, they were sexually freed.

Csilla keeps talking about the affair, pushing more scones on Lynne. Lynne knows she did not bake them. Csilla is “a strategic liar, being a memoirist” (105).
