Leah Hanwell

Leah Hanwell is tall and lanky, with very fair-skinned and red hair. She is married to Michel, a hairdresser originally from Guadeloupe. On the morning that Shar shows up at Leah's front door, Leah tell Shar that she is pregnant, and that she just found out this morning. Although Natalie is a better student than Leah, Leah is open and receptive to the world, and often very generous. Leah is an only child.

Leah's father dies of cancer when Leah is in her early twenties. This seems to have an adverse effect on Leah's behavior. She is also greatly affected by the death of Olive, her and Michel's dog.
