Section 29 through Section 31 Summary and Analysis

Section 29 begins on page 154 with the phrase, "Dear Mr. Bukowski...." Bukowski tells readers of an ex-girlfriend, Mary. Mary leaves him one evening, and slams the door on the way out. Having warned her not to do so, Bukowski follows her and hits her. She returns a few days later, only to threaten to leave again. Bukowski, drunk, wishes her well. Angry, she beats him over the head with her purse, leaving him bleeding and unconscious. Mary returns with two individuals, Eddie and the Duchess. When Mary and Eddie leave for more wine, Bukowski throws the Duchess on the bed and makes love to her. Upon their return, the Duchess claims Bukowski raped her.
