Survival

Survival stories are based on man versus nature, man versus himself, or man versus another man. In this novel Leif is a teenager who has battled to survive his entire life. He has struggled against other men and finds that is a much more difficult battle than his battles against nature and himself.

The author never exactly identifies this time setting, but it was clearly in the distant past. Leif's father died before Leif's birth and his mother died during childbirth, leaving Leif an orphan at a time when there were no social services in place to care for him. A kind woman took care of his basic needs for the first few years of his life. Then, Leif's battle to survive became his own. He was sold and traded from one ship to another, leaving him at the mercy of crews of brutal men who...
