Summary

Dee returns home along a cold, snowy sidewalk from the home of Rab, a white weed dealer. At Rab’s house, Dee was prepared to buy some weed before realizing that he did not have any money. Rab refused to sell to him, and Dee left angrily, insisting that he did indeed have enough cash. Dee arrives at the bridge to the reservation that he calls home. As Dee passes over the frozen swamp that the bridge spans, he hears a moan come from somewhere below. Dee hops over the side of the bridge to investigate and finds his friend Fellis sprawled out on the ice. Dee shines his lighter on Fellis and realizes that Fellis’s hair has become stuck to the snow.

Dee moves to cut Fellis’s hair with a pocket knife, but Fellis insists that Dee get boiling water and...
