Summary

While talking to Da’Naisha, MaViolet pointed out a clock of Jefferson’s at the foot of her bed, remarking that her father used to carry a pocket watch. Worried about MaViolet’s health, Da’Naisha announced to the rest of the group that she intended to go back to town. In the ensuing conversation, in which several other people also announced a desire to return, it was decided that Knox and Carol would scope out the situation in town, as they were both white and could pass for mother and son. That night, Da’Naisha was scheduled for guard duty. While on patrol, she thought about how Knox wanted to help her but seemed unable to see her, and how she was afraid to let him fully know her.
