Summary

In Chapter 2, Caroline is left with two officials after Father leaves, and she struggles to breath normally. Caroline begins to pack, but Mr. Harris says she will not need her clothes. Caroline is worried that people will take their possessions, but he says not to worry about it. She rides in his car and is surprised as how fast things go by. She has a memory of riding with her foster parents and little sister, and they were all eating popsicles. They arrive at a facility and a woman introduces herself as Jean Bauer. She suggests Caroline might be more comfortable talking with her instead of Mr. Harris. Caroline feels she must be careful. She showers, thinking about how this is different from when they shower in the forest with very limited water. A doctor examines her, declaring that she is in good health...
