Summary

Chapter 3 continues. Real Milkman suggests that, if Young Woman is feeling unsafe, she might gain some guidance and support from the small coalition of feminist women in town. Young Woman is shocked by that suggestion, as she knows that all women in town who identify as feminist face harsh persecution. The narration then digresses to expound upon the history of feminism in town. The feminist coalition formed fairly recently, and people accused the women of being deeply immoral. The feminists protested against the deeply unfair treatment of women, but the rest of the community simply viewed the women as making false or irrelevant claims in an attempt to upset morality and accepted social norms. One day, a group of renouncers badly vandalized a shed where a small group of feminists regularly held meetings. The feminists regularly held protests against physical/sexual assault of women...
