Written by Justin A. Reynolds and illustrated by Pablo Leon, the story is split into six chapters each following Miles Morales and his superhero secret identity, Spider-Man. Miles is the story’s narrator.

The story begins with Miles swinging from rooftop to rooftop, and through the streets of Brooklyn. All while he explains what it is like to adapt to his new life and powers as Spider-Man. He helps an old lady cross the street, takes selfies with fans, stops a robbery, and details that he got his newfound powers because he was bitten by a genetically engineered spider. Additionally Miles explains his relationship with Peter Parker’s Spider-Man, who is a friend and mentor. Though they stay in their own neighborhoods, Queens for Peter Parker and Brooklyn for Miles.

Miles is watching the sun set from a rooftop when he gets a call from his friend Ganke, they joke about their dancing ability. Miles’s spider-sense starts to buzz and two villains, Trinity and Vex, bust onto the roof. Miles tries to stop them but is still learning to use his webs and the two escape with hang gliders.

Miles continues the chase through traffic as the two are now on a motorcycle. They drive into the back of a truck and disappear. Miles hands off the case to the police as he gets a notification about an earthquake in Puerto Rico. Miles rushes home to his family. At home Miles’s mother, Rio, is talking to her family on the island. She recounts her childhood in Puerto Rico and Miles donates his savings to the relief efforts. He wonders what else he can do, so he starts a fundraiser.

At school Miles is handing out flyers for the fundraiser and meets a new student Kyle. Miles and Kyle have art class together and they bond over their shared love and talent for art. Kyle gets a call from her father, whose boss is willing to sponsor the fundraiser.

Later that night, Miles, now as Spider-man, head into Manhattan to Vex and Trinity. Where he finds them in Times Square. Miles jumps on the back of Vex’s bike, but his spider-sense starts to go crazy as Vex turns around and fires a sonic blast at him. They fly off the bike as Trinity arrives with her new superpowers as well. Trinity surrounds Vex in energy and stops her from falling, floating in air. They try to teleport away but Miles sticks them to the wall with his webs. Miles grabs the bag with the mysterious rock and leaves.

At lunch the next day Miles shows Ganke and Kyle the mysterious rock he recovered. The three of them determine the rock is from Serval Industries, the place where Kyles’ Dad works. Later in the common room, Kyle begins to worry about her dad. He has not responded to her calls and messages. She starts to suspect something is wrong.

Miles meets with his Dad at the police station where his Dad works. He asks for help to find Mr. Granderson. While at the station he notices Trinity and Vex being released by Mr. Snow, the boss of Mr. Granderson and head of Serval Industries. After Lunch with his Mom, Miles is a bit uncertain about his responsibilities and priorities. He Meets up with Peter Parker, the other Spider-man, and asks him for help. Peter gives him some much needed advice.

On his way home, he notices someone sneaking around Serval Industries. He decides to go in and investigate, using his power of invisibility. He follows the mysterious intruder to Mr. Granderson’s office. The intruder is caught by a security guard but is able to give him the slip. Eventually outrunning even Miles.

In their dorm room, Ganke gets the tracker Miles placed on the intruder to work. Signaling them that the person who broke into Serval Industries in the school library. Miles heads off to track them down. Leading him to Kyle, who was the person sneaking around Serval Industries. Miles and Kyle argue about what she might be doing is potentially dangerous and the risks she is taking may be too big.

Miles suits up and catches Kyle before she can sneak in again. Kyle shows him a video of her father being attacked by Trinity and Vex. Kyle wants to go in and save him, but Miles knows it is too dangerous for her. They argue again as Miles almost blows his cover, nearly revealing his identity. He saves himself and is able to convince Kyle to stay outside, while he goes in alone.

Inside Miles discovers what Mr. Snow is up to. He is mining Terrigen crystals from Puerto Rico after the earthquake and hiding this with his relief efforts. Trinity and Vex attack Miles nearly taking him down. However Miles is able to overcome the attacks and subdue them with his webs.

All that is left is to stop Mr. Snow from escaping. Snow takes Kyle as a hostage and plans to leave with his helicopter. Miles is able to stop his henchmen and ground the helicopter with his webs. He manages to save Mr. Snow as he is falling to the ground. With Mr. Snow caught and Mr. Granderson found, Miles hands the case off to the police.

Miles heads home to a family dinner, where he is able to find new inspiration for his artwork. The stories his Mom tells him about her family and culture in Puerto Rico gives Miles a new idea.
