Summary

In Chapter 20, Mika takes on a new project at work. She turns it in Friday afternoon and leaves work early, meaning she arrives to pick up Penny a little early. She is surprised to see Penny “canoodling” with Devon. Penny is clearly embarrassed as she gets in the car. She and Devon had “made it official. We're going out” (207). She asks Mika not to tell Thomas. Mika is not sure about keeping this secret. She wonders if Penny and Caroline ever had secrets. She agrees not to tell Thomas because she wants that kind of bond with Penny. Mika experiences some anxiety as she arrives at her parents' house.
