Slave ship

The slave ship is the main setting within the poem as it is told by a white slaver who has been spared by the mutineers. The ship is described with violent language, such as “Sails flashing to the wind like weapons” (2).

Havana

Havana, Cuba is loosely mentioned in the poem as the origin of the enslaved people aboard the ship. After the mutiny, they plan to sail back to Cuba and charge the slavers, fighting any extradition policies that would hold them accountable for a mutiny.
