Chapters 25-32 Summary

As the Van Alen mansion is remodeled, Schuyler is instructed by Lawrence on vampiric techniques, such as mind-control. The newest vampires have not been taught these methods by the Committee. Lawrence is remedying the situation with his granddaughter. He instructs her on invisibility techniques, as well as how to use her photographic memory. The Silver Bloods, Lawrence explains, place no value on learning, so the use of history is important.

While seeking books in the Repository, Schuyler runs into Jack, who is studying. They talk about Kafka's book, "The Trial", and discuss law and love. Mimi, meanwhile, has also been hanging out with Kingsley. She finds in Kingsley a common desire -to use power. Both believe the Committee is too cautious about using power.
