Summary

“The Dancing Cow” describes a curious phenomenon on Jane and Michael’s street: a cow is seen wandering the Lane, and Mary Poppins claims that the cow was a great friend of her mother’s. Intrigued, the children beg Mary to tell them the cow’s story, so she recounts the following tale.

The Red Cow once lived in a beautiful field, and was extremely proper. She had a Red Calf to keep her company and was generally content. Then, one day, she suddenly began to dance and found that she simply could not stop. It quickly ceased to be amusing, so the Red Cow made her way to the King’s Palace to ask for his advice. The King discovers that the Red Cow has a fallen star stuck on her horn which is causing her to dance...
