Chapter Eight Summary

As life settles into a routine Alex feels lonely and disappointed. She still feels useless in her store as the men prefer to talk to Andy. She has also only made one sale from her new line of cross country skis. Even Bruno had left her to live with Casey. Casey has become quite cool, not accepting dinner invitations or inviting her to his house. As she thinks about how she plans to stay in Alaska until spring, Andy brings her back to reality by flipping on a light and asking why she hasn't gone home yet. He tells her the trip home will be difficult in her small car but because she doesn't have friends to stay with she decides to head home.
