Summary

In Chapter 5, William returned from a walk to the tower. He told Lucy about its history. Despite its significance, William said nobody remembered it (69). Lucy reflected on William’s connection to World War II. He recently learned that his mother Catherine had had Lois with another man. She abandoned Lois for William and his father, who died when William was 14. His father was a German soldier prisoner of war.

Lucy received an email from Lois. She apologized for refusing to see William. She wanted Lucy to ask him if they could communicate now. When she showed it to William, he was ecstatic.

Although Lucy started talking to Becka regularly, she continued worrying about her. Chrissy assured her Becka was okay.
