Souls

Souls are the central part of a person’s humanity. Within the soul rests the essence and immortality of a human being, and is the part of the human being that lives on after death. A soul is vital to a human being, especially to peculiars. Peculiar souls are where peculiar power originates. As such, they are a high commodity for Hollowghasts, soulless creatures who feed on souls to become human again. Souls are also fragmented and mixed into a chemical drug called ambrosia, which is used by most in Devil’s Acre. Fragmenting a soul has severe ill physical effects on a person. When a peculiar dies, their souls are taken to the Library of Souls. Corrupt men and women will consume these souls to increase their powers and strength. Such a man is Caul.
