Summary

This section begins with a description of the battles as they took place upon Aeneas' return with Evander and other allies. Turnus kills Evander's son, Pallas, as retribution for taking sides with the Trojans. Turnus steals Pallas' golden belt from his dead body. Aeneas then goes after Turnus, but does not find him. In doing so he fights with Mezentius' son, Lausus, and kills him. Aeneas kills Mezentius shortly after, as well.

In the city, Lavinia is tending to the wounded. She is approached by Drances, who tells her that she need not worry that her father will marry her to Turnus due to his reverence for the oracle. Latinus then sends Drances along with other messengers to the Trojan camp to negotiate a temporary truce so that both sides have time to bury their dead.
