Summary

Though Yunxian is settling into the Mansion of Golden Light very well, Miss Zhao is struggling to carve out a place for herself in the company of Grandfather Tan's three concubines: White Jade, Green Jade, and Red Jade. Miss Zhao, clearly upset by what they have said, makes an excuse and leaves. Grandmother Ru silences the three concubines, in a clear expression of who holds power in the household.

While Miss Zhao teaches Yunxian classical texts and philosophy, Grandmother Ru continues to teach her medicine.

Lady Huang comes for another consultation, as do Midwife Shi and Meiling. Yunxian is proud of what she has learned, and happy to see her friend. The two girls are becoming increasingly confident in what they know. While the older women conclude Lady Huang's visit, the girls go outside to play...
