Summary

In Chapter 27, Gamache took a taxi to rue Ste.Catherine. He found Anita Facial and paid her to help him find the little girl in the red hat. He knew he had run the risk of being seen by going to that area, but was tired of sacrificing for the greater good.

Gamache next met Stephen Horowitz, his godfather, for lunch. Horowitz guessed that Gamache wanted to talk to him about Hugo. Horowitz said that Hugo might be unattractive, but was a decent person. He was a better trader than Tony ever was. Horowitz also said he suspected it was Tony who did the stealing and the assistant who got blamed, not the other way around.
