Courage

Courage or Valor is the main theme in the story. Zoe is the third of the triad to fight against Kane to retrieve the third key and set free the Daughters of Glass. As with the other women, Zoe receives clues that lead to the things she will have to do to conquer Kane in addition to facing old and new fears and demons.

Rowena reads the scroll, which begins, "'Beauty and truth,' she read, 'are lost without the courage to hold them. But one pair of hands can grip too hard, so that the precious slips through the fingers. Loss and pain, sorrow and will, blaze the rough path through the forest. Along the journey there is blood, and there is the death of innocence and the ghosts of what might have been'" (Chapter 2, p. 29).
