Play Seven, Fire in the Hole, Part 3 Summary

In Scene 8, Tommy and the miners come in, ready to start their shift. Mary Anne and Joshua meet them as the miners tease Tommy and Joshua about Joshua's shortness. Andrew steps forward, and Tommy shows him the papers testifying to Joshua's age. Mary Anne watches as Joshua and the other miners go down into the mine.

In Scene 9, Tommy gives Joshua some pointers on how to survive down in the mine as they break for lunch. Tommy tells Joshua some of the family history, such as how losing the Rowen family land almost broke Mary Anne's heart, and how she's all Tommy ever wanted. There's a sudden explosion, and the stage is goes dark. Tommy and Joshua call out to each other as Mary Anne and the other miner's wives gather...
