Chapter 6 Summary

Chapter 6 begins with Charlie sharing that he was supposed to be grounded until after the New Year but his parents eased up on his punishment so that he could go to Jeffrey's cricket game. Charlie tells the reader that on the night he got caught sneaking out with Jasper Jones, the police sergeant and his parents escorted him inside to question if he'd been with Jasper. Charlie realized that he is a good liar because he immediately came up with a story about how he has had a long-time crush on Eliza Wishart, that he was worried about her that night and snuck out to see her.

Charlie also stated that he'd been to see Eliza that day before. Charlie felt relieved when he realized that everyone seemed to believe his story. When the police left, Charlie was grounded by his mother but...
