Chapter 3 Summary

Shannon catches her reflection in the mirror. Shannon is disfigured and the image causes her to think back on the day of her accident. Shannon was driving on the highway in Los Angeles when she was shot through the driver side window. Shannon managed to drive herself to the hospital where she was taken before the other patients, a fact that reestablished her faith in the kindness of strangers. That day, pictures were taken of Shannon's face, but she has not been allowed to see them. Others have seen them, including her ex-fiancé Manus Kelley, and her best friend, Evie Cottrell. Shannon wants to see the pictures, but Manus refuses to show her. Everyone is worried the sight of her disfigurement will cause Shannon to fall into an irreversible depression. Shannon was a model before the accident.
