Summary

Part 1, Section 2, pages 61- 120, starts with Jules reminiscing back to one day in August, 1993. Nel and Jules both decide to go the river, independently. Jules watches Nel and her friends from the riverbanks, remarking to herself that Nel’s boyfriend Robbie Cannon makes her feel uneasy. At the river Nels’ friends start to tease Jules and start hitting her with a ball as “target practice” (65). One of the other girls shouts for them to stop, that Jules is bleeding, and Jules realizes she is not injured. In fact, she has her period and blood has soaked through her shorts. Jules runs away as she hears the boys laugh. That night she goes into the Drowning Pool, and Nel pulls her out - as Nel also detailed in the prologue of her manuscript.
